AI Toolbox review: Is the $59 AppSumo lifetime deal worth it?

AI Toolbox is a browser extension that adds folders, full-text search, bookmarks, prompts, exports and other organization tools to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok, and the current AppSumo deal is $59 for lifetime access. 

It's software that basically trying to solve a much more boring problem - what the hell do you do when you've got hundreds or thousands of AI conversations scattered across different platforms and can't find anything anymore?

And after going through the current product information, the recent updates and the customer feedback, I think it's a considerably more interesting product than the basic feature list makes it look, but there are also some fairly obvious problems.

TL;DR

The Search Feature Is Really the Whole Point Here

There are a lot of things in AI Toolbox - folders, subfolders, bookmarks, labels, Smart Tags, prompt chains, exports, media galleries, context tools and various other bits and pieces, and most of those are pretty useful - nut if I'm deciding whether I'd actually pay for this, cross-platform search is the thing I would be interested in.

The developers have rebuilt the product quite heavily from feedback it seems, and continue to do so - in an August update they acknowledged that the earlier version was effectively several separate toolboxes sharing a name, so they said they spent five weeks and 13 releases rebuilding it around one shared library, with one search box, shared folders, synchronized tags and prompts, and the ability to move context between platforms.

That's a much more sensible product, so good decision on that front.

That cross-platform part is the important part from the above table, because AI Toolbox isn't really trying to compete with ChatGPT or any other AI tools own search, because they have them built in, but he useful bit for me or you is having one place to search when you don't remember which one you used, which I think is the product's most valuable feature. 

Some reviews have also encountered an important problem - some ChatGPT accounts weren't finishing indexing, and the founder said very large ChatGPT accounts can run into limits where older conversations aren't returned properly and said fixes and a workaround were being developed.

I do like the fact the founder is actively fixing all the issues, or at least trying to.

What you get for $59

The current AppSumo Tier 1 deal is fairly extensive:

That's a lot for $59 to be fair, but this is also where I think people need to be slightly careful - a long feature list doesn't automatically mean a product is worth buying.

I don't particularly care that there's a media gallery if I'm buying the software because I want to find a conversation from eight months ago, nor would I care that prompt chaining can handle multi-step workflows if I never use prompt chains.

The value comes from whether the core workflow saves you enough aggravation to justify adding another extension to your browser.

AI Toolbox vs Just Using ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok

That's the reason I don't think this is particularly interesting for everyone - if you mostly use ChatGPT, you're adding another layer on top of something that already does a lot of what you need, and if you use ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok every day, the argument changes quite a bit.

The whole point is that your AI usage stops being four separate little filing systems, and the current product genuinely does cover all four. 

What about Perplexity?

Perplexity does not currently work with AI Toolbox.

The founder has said however Copilot and Perplexity were the current priorities, where they also said they had no plans for a native desktop app because AI Toolbox is designed as a browser extension.

So, if you're a heavy Perplexity user, you're still going to have one major AI history sitting outside the system, but the fact that Perplexity is a stated priority for the future is encouraging, but future support isn't current support.

The Product Has Improved, But It Isn't Finished

On September 10, an update was released that fixed or improved several things that actually matter - search became faster, the titles-only option was moved beside the search box, long exports were fixed so they don't cut answers short, export progress and cancellation were added, formatting survives exports better, and issues with ChatGPT Projects disappearing on large accounts were addressed.

That's good, but the existence of those updates also tells you something else - the product has had quite a few rough edges still.

One verified purchaser said the interface felt dated and sometimes unnecessarily difficult to navigate, while another called the product useful but criticized the fragmented experience between different platforms - the founder didn't really try to brush those complaints away though, and in fact, the August update openly acknowledged that the earlier versions had separate platform experiences and described the rebuild in fairly blunt terms.

An organization tool shouldn't make you work harder to organize things, and there's another issue that's worth mentioning because it's a little more serious than an ugly menu.

One AppSumo user reported getting ChatGPT's "You're making requests too quickly" message after installing AI Toolbox, where the founder acknowledged that part of the problem was on their side, explained that background indexing was responsible, and said a later update would add controls for normal, reduced or paused background indexing. 

The user later explained that they had nine browser windows and many ChatGPT tabs open, which complicated the situation considerably, so I wouldn't turn that into "AI Toolbox breaks ChatGPT" because the evidence doesn't support that.

I would say that heavy users with enormous ChatGPT histories and lots of open tabs need to be aware that indexing is doing real work in the background, and that's a very different claim.

The Privacy Situation Is Better Than It First Looks - But Read the Details

This is another area where I don't want to simply repeat "your data stays local" because the reality is slightly more nuanced - AI Toolbox says the actual conversation content is cached in your browser's IndexedDB and isn't uploaded to its servers during normal use - search, Smart Tags, exports and ordinary folder organization are designed around that local cache.

However, some organizational information does synchronize.

That includes things such as folders, saved prompts, bookmarks, labels, tag rules and other metadata, and the company says this information is encrypted at rest. 

The privacy explanation also says that the optional Context Mentions feature can temporarily send selected conversation content for summarization, so I'd describe the privacy model like this:

So, i you're using AI Toolbox for normal personal research, that's one thing, but if your saved prompts contain client processes, proprietary workflows, internal methodologies or sensitive business information, I'd actually read the privacy policy and understand the sync settings before using it.

One AppSumo reviewer did exactly that, too - they initially had concerns, contacted support and reviewed the privacy policy and DPA, and they concluded that the architecture was more privacy-conscious than they initially thought, but still criticized how difficult it was to understand the distinction between local data, synced information and temporary processing, which I think is a reasonable criticism.

The company says it doesn't currently hold certifications such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001, and it doesn't pretend otherwise in its privacy response.

Who Is AI Toolbox Actually For?

This is where I think the product becomes much easier to judge.

I wouldn't buy this because it's only $59, but I'd buy it because your AI history has become a problem - if you have 50 conversations and can find everything fairly easily, AI Toolbox might just become another extension sitting in your browser.

If you have 2,000 conversations across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok and regularly think "I know I did this somewhere," then suddenly the main feature becomes much more valuable.

The developers themselves describe the original product as coming from exactly that problem - the founder said he spent around 20 minutes trying to find an old ChatGPT pricing conversation before eventually recreating it, and that original frustration is actually a pretty good explanation of why the product exists.

Is $59 Actually Good Value?

I think yes, for the right user, I just don't think it is automatically good value for everybody.

The current AppSumo deal gives you lifetime access for $59, including the current Premium feature set and future Premium updates, but the bigger question is what happens if you don't use it much - $59 isn't a lot compared with some SaaS subscriptions, but a lifetime deal you never use is still $59 wasted.

I'd look at the value like this:

And there is another thing I like about the current deal, because as I mentioned above, the developers have actually been shipping.

The August rebuild was substantial rather than cosmetic, and the September update was another batch of practical fixes, which is much more encouraging than a lifetime deal that gets launched with 40 features and then spends the next year doing absolutely nothing.

Still, I wouldn't ignore the fact that the product is relatively young and has already gone through some fairly significant architectural changes.

Founder Worth Verdict: WORTH CONSIDERING

I think AI Toolbox is worth considering, but I wouldn't tell everybody to buy it.

The product solves a problem that is only going to get more annoying as people use more AI services, so having one place to search across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok makes sense, and the developers have spent a significant amount of 2026 turning what was previously a collection of separate experiences into something much more unified.

There's a genuinely useful product underneath here, and if you're constantly bouncing between AI platforms and your conversation history has become a complete mess, $59 is a reasonable gamble - especially with AppSumo's 60-day refund period, but if you're a casual ChatGPT user, I'd just keep your $59.
